Cellulite Reduction Treatments

Cellulite is a term that describes superficial pockets of trapped fat. Such fat trapped under the skin causes uneven dimpling of skin sometimes called “orange peel skin.” Common areas where cellulite is found are thighs, buttocks and abdomen. Reduction treatments include Endermologie, creams, massage and electrical muscle stimulators.

Endermologie

Endermologie was originally developed as a treatment for scars. In recent times it has become a more popular treatment for cellulite reduction and skin toning. Endermologie takes away the tissue barrier that causes cellulite and storing of fat cells. This restores blood circulation and improves skin texture. At the same time, waste products and fat are removed from in between fat cells. It takes about 4 or 5 treatments for noticeable results.

Creams

Xanthenes, Retinoid and Alpha hydroxyl acids form the key ingredients in cellulite reduction creams. Xanthenes such as aminophylline and theophylline are common ingredients in several cellulite creams. They prove helpful in stimulating fat metabolism. Some studies seem to demonstrate that these creams are not useful for fighting cellulite. Retinoid are derived from vitamin A. Concentration of 0.01 to 0.1% reduces the appearance of fine wrinkles and roughness of facial skin. As these improve the thickness of the skin and circulation to the skin surface, Retinoid are now being considered as a possible treatment for cellulite.

Massage

Massage loosens connective tissue so that it moves more freely and no longer sticks to underlying structures. Loosening of connective tissue increases stimulation of blood vessels, which in turn increases nutrition to the tissues. Care should be taken not to massage too much. This can cause damage to the blood vessels as areas with cellulite will be sensitive.

Electrical Muscle Stimulators or EMS

Electrical muscle stimulators are prescription devices that are used in physical therapy for treating specific neuromuscular problems. Health spas have been using these devices for girth reduction, weight loss, cellulite reduction and non surgical face lifts.

Several cellulite treatments are available. However, it is advisable to consult experts before trying any specific treatments.
